(Our Christmas Card :) If you click on it you can see the 'funny' up close ;)
( Again...clicking allows for more laughter)
Does anyone else sorta 'get' why those in the Jehovah Witness belief system do not celebrate 'events'? I am kinda REALLY gettin' to understand where they are coming from ;)
In all honesty...and seriousness...and love...
I do wish you and yours a beautiful weekend...no matter how it is spent.
If you are with family...may amazing memories be made...
If you are 'alone' this Christmas...please know you really are not because Christ is there to comfort you.
If you are sick or weakened this season..may some of this over-the-top celebration of Christ's birth bring you some fresh hope and energy.
I am pushing through this weekend (regardless of what my PTSD says...but.....if it lands me on my butt everyone around me understands which is a major relief)...
and WILL make some lasting memories with my precious brood of 5 and the man of my dreams (and also my fabulous in-laws and sister, brother-in-law, and my nephews..and of course...our 'Aunt' Laura...)
BUT...So help me when I see a commercial on December 26th about "Final Markdowns" or a "Super Sale" or such...
I will be throwing a fruitcake at the TV. (over it! even if I am one of the guilty ones encouraging these commercials via my retail habits :))
Merry Christmas...
You all are a gift to me EVERY day of the year..not just on a holiday weekend.
Blessings,
Andrea

I love celebrating family. I love celebrating events. So many special memories to treasure. And as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I especially like that we don't need a date on a calender to dictate when to do this. Love the look on the kiddos faces when "present day" comes around -completely unexpected.
Enjoy this special time with your bunch of cutie pie kiddos. :)
ps- Wouldn't it be nice to see people thinking about Jesus every day of the year? Imagine if we all can imitate his love and kindness each day of the year how comforting and encouraging it would be and what a different place this world would be.
Hi Cami...thx for ur comment and insight.
I have been curious when Jehovah Witnesses have a Present Day and if they are more than once/year.
And..do you honor important happenings within your belief system just without presents? For instance...celebrating Jesus' death/resurrection on "Easter" but without any non-religious activities involved?
Can you help me with that? Bear with my ignorance! I have always wondered this about the Jehovah Witness belief system
Also, as a Jehovah Witness do you attempt to conduct each day showing God's love? I see that as as a common thread amongst all Christ-Followers.
Looking forward to hearing from you again..
Andrea
Any day can be "present day". :) Although we also do plan some too. Our little family likes to mark the beginning and the end of each school year with a special day.
To his faithful apostles Jesus said, "Keep doing this in remembrance of me." (Luke 22:19) Each year we celebrate the Memorial of the Lord's Evening Meal. It calls special significance of the death of Jesus Christ in the outworking of his Father's purpose. It highlights the meaning of Jesus' sacrificial death.
By maintaining integrity down till his death, Jesus proved that Adam's sin was not due to any flaw in the creator's design of man; that it is possible for a human to maintain perfect godly devotion even under severe pressure. Besides that, Jesus death provided the perfect human sacrifice needed to ransom Adam's offspring and thus make it possible for billions who would exercise faith to live forever in a paradise earth in fulfillment of the original purpose for mankind. (John 3:16 and Genesis 1:28)
Each year Jehovah's Witnesses commemorate this on Nisan 14 -usually near the date many celebrate Easter on.
This is the only holy day that Jesus commanded his followers to celebrate. Last April this was attended worldwide by 19,374,737 people in 236 different countries. As there are 7.7 million Jehovah's Witnesses you can see that many people of different faiths also attend this special event.
We are happy to excitedly celebrate big occasions in life -marriage, new babies, anniversaries, other milestones. (plus I love any excuse to have decadent cake!) ;)
Some people think that Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in Jesus since we emphasize his father Jehovah. We live our life doing our best to imitate Jesus. The best explanation I've see about Jesus ransom and what it accomplishes is at http://www.watchtower.org/e/bh/article_05.htm
I find it refreshing that Jesus summed up how to live our lives in Matthew 22:37-40. "You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second, like it, it this, "You must love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments the whole Law hangs."
How can anyone go wrong with following these 2 laws?
Nice visiting with you Andrea. I am a big fan of your blog and enjoy hearing about your triumphs and cry along with your despair. No matter what happens we manage to find the beauty in each day with our children. That is a beautiful thing.
